Mambu and Anneke Quoi


Mambu Quoi was born in Jo Village in Bomi County Liberia. He got education in Monrovia and followed skill training in masonry by Don Bosco in 1992 and 1 year later Mambu got a specific training in Water and Sanitation by a UNICEF supervisor. In the mean time he started a company, with 3 friends, in WATSAN activities and construction.  During the 14 years of civil war that started in December 1989, Mambu was not able to leave Liberia. After the war he got a vision that he need to help rebuilt destroyed Liberia   by training ex-child soldiers and war effected youth in Water and Sanitation and masonry activities.
Anneke, coming from Papendrecht, the Netherlands, went to business school and worked since 1991 in Israel, Croatia, Bosnia, Kosovo, Syria and Irak. She came on Christmas Eve 2003 for a ZOA/Medair/Cord Emergency program to Liberia. During her stay in Monrovia she met Mambu when he came to fix the well in the ZOA compound.
2 people from completely different cultures and back ground had the same vision: Follow Jesus by bringing the love of Jesus and light in the life of the poorest of the poor. In their neighborhood, Sinkor area, Mambu and Anneke started beside their working hours a project ‘ First aid at the gate’ supported by the Dutch reformed Church in Papendrecht, the Netherlands; bringing people to the hospital for treatment, medical help, building up burnt  houses and helped children to go to school.
Later on Anneke worked for North West Medical teams in Cape Mount County till her marriage on August 20, 2005.
In November 2005 Mambu continued with his own construction company focuses on Water and sanitation. Anneke, housewife worked on voluntary bases at the ELWA compound and assist Ezechiel Gardea and Weedor Karmue , children teachers of the ICM church in Monrovia with the organizing of children activities. The First aid at the gate program moved from the Sinkor area to ELWA compound, Paynesville area and in 2007 to Congo Town area. Due to the extension of several small programs Mambu and Anneke Quoi decided in 2008 to bring all their activities under the umbrella of a local NGO named Manneka a combination of their both names.
Manneka, is an local NGO official registered in Liberia since 2008.
